  The mosque was built in 1658, during the reign of Ibrahim Iskandar. This Mosque is famous for its beautiful rooms with intricately carved panels. The Mosque was built on a old West oriented temple and this explains its anomalous orientation. Very interesting are the white and blue minaret and the small cemetery with graves of ancient sultans on the West part. The mosque was added to tentative UNESCO World Heritage cultural list in 2008 as unique unique example's of sea culture architecture.

  The oldest mosque in Maldives the place is a work by the ancestors from stone. And a heritage protected by the UNICEF.

  Also known as Male Friday Mosque. Built by Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar I in 1658 on top of an older mosque. Built using coral boulders which hardens when dry. It looks grey and very2 old. Unlike other mosque, the carpet is slanted to face the direction of Kaabah.
